Hollywood's two most famous films about 6/6/44 -- The Longest Day (1962) and Saving Private Ryan (1998) take radically different approaches, but are both very effective at communicating the terrible price of freedom.

"Happy 26th birthday" to The Truman Show, which opened 6/5/98. A bruising work of art beneath its bright veneer, the film predicts the future of TV, viral media, and "zombified masses." Jim Carrey's Truman is a wide-eyed innocent who realizes he's little more than a practical joke... and refuses to conform. From a purely emotional POV, Big Jim's final bow stands as my top singular moment in 90s cinema.
