25 years ago today, The Blair Witch Project opened in limited release, building on the enormous buzz that had been growing for 6 months. A trailblazing independent film, TBWP changed the way movies were marketed and ended up grossing an astonishing $248.6 million worldwide, against a production budget of $60,000.

Happy 68th birthday to one of the GOATS, Tom Hanks! The "light comic actor" from early 80s TV (i.e. Bosom Buddies, Family Ties) went on to give towering dramatic performances in more films than I can count, winning consecutive Best Actor Oscars for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.

OTD 1993: In the Line of Fire opens. Clint Eastwood gives a career-best perf as the haunted Secret Service Agent who "didn't react" on 11/22/63. 30 years later, a crafty assassin offers him a chance at redemption.

Much more than just a fun summer actioner, ITLOF is a genuinely great film which (mistakenly) felt like a swan song for 63 year-old Clint Eastwood.
