Always exciting for boxing fans when two all-timers square off. Terence Crawford's UD victory came as a surprise to many, but not all. Join me for a recap of last night and some fun history of similar classic fights from days gone by.

Despite strong starts to their respective 2025 seasons, the Mets and Yankees have played below expectations. While the guys from the Bronx have righted the ship of late, the Mets continue to sputter.

The first cataclysmic event I have memories of? The assassination of John Lennon. I was 6 y.o. and can still feel the heaviness of the air in school that morning. I believe that sharing memories of and from traumatic events (esp on the anniversary of 9/11) helps us cope.

September 7, 1978. The defending World Series champion Yankees arrive in Boston for a 4-game series, not coincidentally trailing the Red Sox by 4 games. In what will be forever known in ⚾ lore as 'The Boston Massacre,' the Yanks sweep the series, crushing the Sox by scores of 15-3, 13-2, 7-0, and 7-4 to vault into a 1st place tie. The Bronx Bombers go on to repeat as W.S. champs and (at least for this fan and historian), the '78 season stands as the franchise's finest hour.

Apparently, fellow retired boxing legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to an exhibition match tentatively scheduled for next Spring, at "Parts Unknown, Weight Unknown, Rules Unknown." Join me for a "preview" of a matchup no one knew they wanted.

The newest entry in our continuing series is Arthur Barron's terrific drama about young love in the Manhattan of the early 70's, featuring fantastic performances from stars Robby Benson and Glynnis O'Connor.

My dad would've turned 83 yesterday. Whatever ideas he had about being a parent, objectively speaking he ended up near the top of the curve. Bronx Science grad, CCNY grad, Army veteran, CPA, entrepreneur, Scrabble assassin, expert puzzle solver, lifelong New York Yankees fan, and father to my sister and I.

August 30, 2023 represents the most action-packed day of my life. After a months-long "dance of death" (from a real estate POV), we finally closed. Despite emotional, mental, physical and psychological exhaustion, I attended that night's 4+ hr Bruce Springsteen concert (all the way in NJ).

30 years ago today (August 29, 1995) the underachieving New York Yankees were 54-59, 16 games behind first place Boston and seemingly buried in the first-ever Wild Card race. With just 31 games left in a strike-shortened season, the Yanks went on an incredible run, closing the season 25-6 to overtake the field and capture the first A.L. Wild Card. Although they fell short in a spectacular ALDS vs. Seattle, the resurgent franchise would go on to win 4 World Series in the next 5 years.

Errol Morris' groundbreaking True Crime docu The Thin Blue Line opened 8/26/1988. "The greatest film of its kind ever made" weaves a horrifying story w/such urgency that a closed murder case in Dallas is re-opened, and an innocent man on death row has his conviction overturned. The Thin Blue Line is streaming free on Tubi and gets my highest recommendation.
