OTD 1995: Brett Leonard's futuristic scifi-actioner Virtuosity opens. The first onscreen pairing of future "Best Actor Oscar Winners" Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington bombs with critics and audiences, but is an intriguing film nevertheless, dealing with similar concepts and themes as later classics such as Dark City and The Matrix.

OTD 1981: John Huston's bonkers WWII/POW/Soccer movie opens. Sly is leaner than ever as an American POW who "joins the football team," as it prepares for what amounts to a propaganda match vs. the German National Team. Easily a top 3 Stallone film for me.

OTD 1994: The Mask opens in theaters. The second leg of Jim Carrey's extraordinary 1994 finds him playing (more or less) a cross between a human and a cartoon character... and doing so brilliantly.
