D-Day. June 6, 1944. The Allies land at Normandy. There's learning about it in a history book, then there's seeing it on the big screen. Hollywood's two most famous films about 6/6/44 -- The Longest Day (1962) and Saving Private Ryan (1998) take radically different approaches, but are both very effective at communicating the terrible price of freedom.
